A highly demanded feature has been Display Names and they are now finally being added to Roblox.

Display Names vs. Usernames

If you are stuck wondering what could possibly be the difference between a username and a display name, let me explain.

A username on Roblox is a name that only one player can use. You first create a username when you make an account. If a username is taken it will say, “this username has already been taken”. This makes it convenient if you want to add your friends on Roblox. Easily, you can search up the exact username of a friend and find them instantly.

If you want to change your username on Roblox, it is not so convenient however. It will cost 1000 Robux, which is quite a large amount of Robux to be spending.

A display name is for showing the name you would like to be displayed. Yes, you will not see, “this display name has already been taken”. Multiple people are allowed to have the same display name.

The first countries this update has been released to have been, Germany, France, and the UK. If you’re from one of these countries, you can skip to this step.

Changing your Display Name using VPN

If the Roblox Display Name Update has not been added in your country you can use VPN.

VPN allows you to change your detected location.

A great choice of VPN would be Nord VPN. You can download this VPN on both Mac, and Windows. Nord is wonderful, I use it and I am happy to promote it.

Lastly, all you have to do is use Nord VPN and change your detected location to either France, UK, or Germany. Once you are done with that step simply reload Roblox and follow the steps below.

Changing your Display Name

The first step is to simply log on Roblox. Once you are on Roblox, head to your Account Settings.

Now, if your Roblox is fully updated there should be a new section that says “Display Name”. You are able to change your Display Name here for completely FREE! 

Be careful when changing your Display Name because you can only change it once every 7 days.

Can you change your Display Name on Mobile?

Yes, you can change your display name on Mobile. Simply follow the same steps instructed but on your Mobile device.

It may take longer for Roblox to enforce updates on Mobile, but they will come soon enough.

Display Name Restrictions

There will be restrictions with Display Names, but nothing major.

1. Display Names cannot be longer than 20 characters
2. You cannot use display names that impersonate well known Roblox Youtubers/Creators
3. No explicit names are allowed
