Minecraft: Axe Enchantment Guide

by | Minecraft | 0 comments

In Minecraft, the Axe is a tool that is commonly used for chopping Wooden Blocks. Whenever you’re chopping down trees, the Axe Tool should be used.

You might be thinking, “why would I want to spend my time putting enchantments on an axe”? Well, the answer is that Enchantments are super useful on any weapon or tool. Enchantments will tremendously help you, no matter the activity. Specifically for Axes, Enchantments can help in several different ways as it does for all weapons and tools.

Before you start adding Enchantments to your Minecraft Axe Tool, it is important to note that you should place your Enchantment Books on your best Axe. The Best Axe you can possibly have is a Netherite Axe, but you can choose whatever Axe you want to Enchant.

All Enchantments for Minecraft Axe Tool

Before diving deeper into each Enchantment it is good to know all the possible Enchantments you can add on a Minecraft Axe. Different Tools/Weapons can have a different set of Enchantments that are allowed to be used.

These 3 Enchantments are Mutually Exclusive…

  • Sharpness V
  • Smite V
  • Bane of Arthropods V

These 2 Enchantments are Mutually Exclusive…

  • Silk Touch I
  • Fortune III

None of these Enchantments are Mutually Exclusive to Eachother…

  • Mending I
  • Unbreaking III
  • Efficiency V

The Mutually Exclusive Enchantments cannot be stacked onto eachother. The rest of the Enchantments can be stacked though. Stacking Enchantments is usually something you’d want to do!

The Best Enchantments to put on a Minecraft Axe Tool

As stated above Sharpness V, Smite V, and Bane of Arthropods V are Mutually Exclusive to one another. These 3 Enchantments are usually something you won’t need on an Axe though. All these Enchantments enhance Attack Damage. When using an Axe, you are typically not using it for attacking. Unless an Axe is all you have during a desperate moment. Basically, adding these 3 Enchantments to your Axe is not something you should worry about or go out of your way to do.

The next two Mutually Exclusive Enchantments are Silk Touch I and Fortune III. For the best Axe possible, it is definitely better to go with Fortune III. Silk Touch I is used to drop blocks as themselves when they can be dropped into different items. This Silk Touch I ability is not needed when gathering wooden blocks (in most cases). On the other hand, Fortune III helps increase the amount of wood you get per tree you axe down.

Mending I is not Mutually Exclusive to any other Axe Enchantment. If you add this Enchantment, your Axe will repair when you get XP while HOLDING the Axe. It really is a matter of opinion, some players like Mending and some do not. Whether you want to add Mending or not, your Axe will still be great with other Enchantments.

The Unbreaking III Enchantment is also not Mutually Exclusive to any other Axe Enchantment. Unbreaking III tremendously improves the durability of your Axe and is great to use for most tools/weapons that you want to have in the long term.

Lastly, there is Efficiency V which is an Enchantment that is not Mutually Exclusive to any other Axe Enchantment. This Enchantment is also really helpful. Efficiency increases the speed of your tool. When farming trees in bulk, the Efficiency Enchantment is a must-have!

So, after all that, what would be the best Axe Enchantment Set-Up?

A great Minecraft Axe to have is an Axe with: Fortune III, Unbreaking III, Efficiency V, and Mending I (optional).

If the Enchantments are placed in this order, you will need 27 XP Levels to Enchant your Axe. It will cost 18 XP Levels if you decide not to add Mending I.

Special Case: Gathering Bookshelves

Something you might want to do is collect Bookshelves. Commonly, you’d find Bookshelves in a Stronghold.
In Strongholds, there is a chance of coming across Mobs and that’s why you’d want to add Sharpness V to your Axe while gathering Bookshelves. These Mobs seemingly come out of nowhere! Sharpness V increases attack damage if you didn’t know already.

Unbreaking III, Efficiency V, and Mending I should be added to your Axe to make it strong for your “Bookshelf Gathering” experience.

Lastly, Silk Touch I needs to be added so you’re able to collect the entire bookshelves instead of just books.

Axe Specifically used for Gathering Bookshelves should be Enchanted with: Sharpness V, Unbreaking III, Efficiency V, Mending I, Silk Touch I.

If the Enchantments are placed in this order, you will need 45 XP Levels to Enchant your Axe. This is pricey so decide if it’s worth having the best Axe for collecting Bookshelves.
