Minecraft Cats: Everything You Need To Know!

by | Minecraft | 0 comments

Previously in Minecraft, you used to be able to tame Ocelots in the same way you would now tame Cats. In the real world, taming Ocelots is probably something you shouldn’t try. Well, that is likely why Minecraft decided it would be better for players to learn how to tame cats instead.

Cats are friendly creatures in Minecraft and are just generally great to have around in your World. If you are curious to learn everything about the Minecraft Cats, you’ve come to the right place.

The Benefits of having Cats in Minecraft

Not only are cats adorable, in Minecraft cats will provide you will a number of benefits to assist your game-play.

Firstly, the hugest benefit to having a Minecraft cat is that they will scare away Creepers. Having Multiple Cats in your base will provide you with extra protection. Trust me, no one ever wants a Creeper to blow up in their base.

Cats will be loving and loyal once they are properly tamed. Something special cats will do is give you a gift when you wake up after resting in bed. These gifts can be a huge variety of items including: phantom membranes, raw chicken, feathers, rotten flesh, string, rabbits hide, & rabbits foot. Now, isn’t that just sweet?! Why wouldn’t you want a Minecraft Cat at this point?

Additionally, Cats are uncomplicated to take care of. They do not take fall damage and they do not die easily unless you attack them a bit by accident (unless it was not an accident then wow… the cruelty). Although this is great, cats do have a tendency to run around a lot… I mean A LOT. So, if you are planning to keep your cat in your base, place it in a nice little Minecart. It would be a shame if your cute cat just ran away forever.

Whether a cat is tamed or not, Minecraft Cats will never attack you. Cats in Minecraft are considered a Passive Mob, contrary to the Hostile Mobs you might find.

Now, if you happen to kill a cat… at least you will get some string and experience out of it. But that’s about it.

How to Find Cats in Minecraft?

There are a couple of places where you can find stray cats in Minecraft. You can either search around Villages or Witch Huts.

The best way to find cats though are to go from village to village until you see a stray cat.

How to Tame Cats in Minecraft?

Before venturing out to find stray cats, you’ll want to have some raw cod or raw salmon equipped.

Then, once you’ve taken the steps to finding a stray cat, walk towards the cat slowly. Naturally, if you move towards a stray cat too quickly, they will be scared and run away.

The cat will start coming closer to you when it notices the raw fish in your hand. Feed the cat raw fish until it is tamed. You are likely going to need more than one piece of raw fish.

You’ll know the cat is tamed the red hearts appear around the cat. The tamed cat will follow you wherever you go.

Make sure to not confuse a cat with an Ocelot. They look very similar but Ocelots are unable to be tamed.

Note: Tamed Cats will have a Collar.

How to Breed Minecraft Cats?

If you want more cats, breeding 2 Cats together is the easiest & quickest way.

Firstly, you will need 2 tamed cats.

Then, make an enclosed space for the 2 cats to be near each other.

Next, feed the cats until red hearts appear over their heads. When both cats have these red hearts, they will automatically start mating.

Bam! You’ll get a cute baby kitten. For this baby kitten to start breeding itself, you’ll have to first feed it to be an adult. As you might expect, baby kittens do not breed.

What do Minecraft Cats love to Eat?

Cats do not have an exceptionally broad diet. They only eat Raw Salmon & Raw Cod, nothing else.

You can get Raw Salmon & Raw Cod by killing fish in the sea or fishing.

What Mobs are afraid of Minecraft Cats?

Even though cats do not look scary at all to some of us, there are a handful of Mobs who think otherwise.

Creepers & Phantoms are terrified of cats! They will 100% keep a distance of at least 16 blocks away from cats of any species.

Other from that, Cats will attack rabbits and turtles but these Mobs aren’t necessarily afraid of cats.
