Dyeing Wool and Sheep
Players can change the color of wool by using any of the 16 colored dyes. This is useful if you’re trying to use specific colors to decorate your builds.
JAVA Edition
White Wool + Matching Dye = Colored Wool
Bedrock Edition
Any Wool + Matching Dye = Colored Wool
If a player uses the dye on a Sheep, the Wool of that specific sheep will be turned into that color until dyed differently. The wool of this sheep can be obtained using Sheers. The color of the wool will be the same as the color of the sheep’s wool.
This is extremely useful if you’re low on colored dye, but want to have loads of Wool in that specific color.
Dyeing Pet Collars
If you’re tired of having the default pet collar color, you can easily change this by using your dye on your pets. You can use any of the 16 colors.
Please note that you’ll first need to tame a pet before it will have a collar.
Dyeing Terracotta
Dyed Terracotta is usually the block builders love using. You can easily dye Terracotta by placing 8 blocks of it around any colored dye of your choice. This will give you 8 pieces of Terracotta in the color you selected.
Dyeing Stained Glass
Dyeing Stained Glass is just the same as dying Terracotta. place 8 pieces of glass around any of the 16 dye colors within a crafting table.
Leather Armor
Only Leather Armor can be dyed:
JAVA Edition
- Crafting dyes with a piece of leather armor
Bedrock Edition
- In Bedrock Edition, you’ll need a Cauldron first. You’ll then need to fill the Cauldron with Water. Once there is Water inside the Cauldron, the next step would be to place Dye inside. Now you can dip any Leather Armor in the Cauldron to color it.
Colored Firework Stars
A Firework Star can have a single color or combination of up to eight colors when crafted with dyes.
Colored Banner Patterns
Dyes can be used within Banners to create custom-looking banners. This can add some personality to your base.
Colored Beds
In Java Edition only White Beds can be dyed into other colors, while in the Bedrock Edition any Bed can be dyed into a different color. All you’ll need is the bed and dye in the color you’d like the bed to be.
Dyeing Shulker Boxes
Shulker Boxes can be Organized a lot better when color-coded. Consider coloring your Shulker Boxes and then using specific colors to store certain types of materials. If you want to dye a Shulker Box, all you’ll need is to place the Shulker Box into a crafting table alongside any colored dye of your choice.
Creating Concrete Powder
When creating concrete powder in Minecraft, you can place a piece of dye for every 8 Blocks of concrete you make. You’ll need the regular Sand and Gravel Materials as well in order to craft the concrete.
*Crafting table required.
Changing the Color of Water inside Cauldrons
You can change the color of water within a Cauldron by simply “using” the item on a Cauldron that is filled with fresh Water.
